I loved it that we were in NYC with the United Nations meeting and President Obama there. Flags everywhere, diplomats and their wives, it felt very NY. Lower East Side shows all kinds of improvements, including bike paths and center islands like parks. The ethnic Asian neighborhoods, were the Irish who moved out, then the Italians and others and now the Asians. Great flavor. I got a kick out of some of the roof restaurants backed up to buildings with fire escapes-just like in the movies. But I kept noticing how much cleaner and safer it felt.
People there are very proud of everything about themselves and their city. I started visiting at one point with a man in the park where we caught the Train-it was Horace Greeley Park at 7th Street. Russ caught me with my pointed finger.
