Our lives now include living at one of the nicest senior communities in the USA. Rossmoor in Walnut Creek, CA. We will still travel in the RV but not full time.

Kreighton and Lisa’s Wedding and Russ’s Heart

Russ and I left California on the 30th of July to be in Sun Valley and Fairfield, Idaho for my nephew’s wedding at an old fashioned, country ranch resort.  Along the way Russ found it difficult to breathe and Kaiser, CA said, go directly to St. Luke’s at Sun Valley.  He spent a night with unusual symptoms.  Blood pressure went sky high when he would walk and heart rate dropped rather low.  A wonderful doctor has walked us through all the hoops and connected us with Idaho Falls cardiologist so we could get back from the wedding to my sister Karole’s and where my dad is.

I could go on and on, but with God’s grace we have continued to be supported by all the right people and his heart test where they can view his heart from flipping him around and over shows he will need a pacemaker.  He is now back over at the hospital getting further tests.  The Sun Valley doctor is staying on as primary and co-ordinating everything.

The coolest thing has been that we could go to the wedding.  We stayed in Sun Valley in the RV at my bothers.  Did not try to move RV to the wedding site 40 miles away.  But on day of wedding doctor let me drive Russ over and he got to enjoy the whole day.  The wedding was terrific and family and friends should recognize people I hope.  I enjoyed grand nieces and nephews and and all my family as well as Lisa’s lovely family.  Nothing like a mountain wedding and casual outdoor eating.  Russ and I were in charge of the salad for 120 plus people and lots of people helped us as they new Russ should not be doing too much cause of the high blood pressure.

Joys of Living In SF Area

OMG!!  I have not blogged since February.  Not because I have nothing to share but because I have been just that busy.  Being retired can be a busy job.

We have been working on the condo here at Rossmoor.  Now we are getting ready to rent it out for two months so we can travel to Idaho wedding for Kreighton and Lisa (nephew) and Colorado where we will enjoy Denver area and support Kreighton’s big brother, Kristopher, and family during the arrival of their new baby.

The other day we drove to Sausalito, CA as a favor to my nephew, Zak.  Oh, he really had to beg me to do this favor.  When you see the photos you will know what a difficult job it was.  Of course it was absolutely a perfect  SF Bay area day.  We had Georgie Girl so we found a restaurant that would let her eat at their outside table.

We were right on the Bay looking at Tiberon, the Bay Bridge, Alcatraz, SF and the Golden Gate Bridge.  Across the street were two of our favorite restaurants.  If you do not know Scoma”s or Trident restaurants you are really missing something.  The Trident sold some years back and had a new name.  It was thrilling to see the old name back up.  Locals loved sharing our pleasure over it.

Our Methodist Church at Pt. Richmond continues to keep us very busy.  We are a jazz church.  Acoustics are incredible and jazz series run for 8 months and today was “Jazz on Father’s Day”.  We are talking professional concerts.  Our minister brought this to us and publishes jazz CD’s, writes songs for the Methodist Church and is published in the new Methodist Hymnal.  We put on a Junktique Sale and I worked with others getting ready for it.  In past years I only worked the day of.  This year I joined Betty, Diane, Jonathan, Bill, Julio, Fran getting ready for it.  Betty gave me a bad time, cause I practically give stuff away, but we did great and raised more money this year than any other.  These people are a real family to Russ and I and we have been active for over 20 years.

Those of you who do not live here really should come visit us.  The Murphy bed is finally put together in the guest room, office, and we are ready for you.  We will be back in September and as many of you know, fall in SF is the best weather of the year.

The Murphy Bed story:  It came in pieces and Russ planned to put it together himself.  First time it arrived after 3 weeks, the boxes were damaged and so it all went back to Canada.  The second time, another month, it all looked good but when Russ started to work with it, gouges appeared on a key piece so he sent that back.  In the meantime for two months we had huge pieces of the bed out in our entry, living room and office.  Russ kept working on parts, and let me tell you, it was difficult and not easy to follow directions.  His battery operated screw driver, fortunately, puts in screws and then takes them out. However the Murphy Bed  was just a taped on veneer and was not meant to have any mistakes.  When the end was near and before we nailed it to the wall, I painted the office.  I’ll have to send photos later on with the results.  Suddenly we had a place looking like home.

Photos include or Friday Farmer’s Market here in Rossmoor, doe and faun, (you cannot believe all the wildlife walking around our homes-turkeys, deer, geese, predator hawks, etc,)  and the Sausalito day.

Old Broads Love Oscars, Victor the Cat and Pink singing Over the Rainbow

My friend Nancy who you have seen before as our RV host in Concord CA in the fall, threw an Oscar Party.  There was Oscar Bingo, Trivia and Popcorn and Theatre Candy in the big boxes.  We did  not care that some of had seen none of them, but guessed on the questions, selected the best movies and loved Ellen and the tweeted photos as well as the pizza guy.  I believe the crowd, big stars and all had fun and so did we.

Now you may not know, but teachers can’t stop talking.  Even with my voice, I could often not get into the conversations.  However, whenever Ellen came on we listened, laughed and loved the fun sweet humor.  Nancy was such a good hostess and Victor the Cat, came in and checked for food then sat at the door looking at it for 15 minutes expecting Nancy to let him out.  The on going power struggle between them keep us all laughing.

We completely stopped talking for “Somewhere over the Rainbow” sung by Pink.  We loved it and were touched.  We also were pretty cool about Whoopie’s red shoes.

Stronger Legs Get Us to the Real Beach at Pacific Ocean

Yeah! Today we made it all the way to the Beach! Not the beach on the Mission Bay but on the Pacific Ocean.   We even met a fantastic guy that is an entertainer.  He is a hypnotist that does shows all over the world and will be at the (Lawrence) Welk Center February 5.  We visited for a long time with legs dangling over the beach from the board walk (if it was board and not cement). People were stopping to comment on Georgie in her purse.  And people, oh my, it’s Saturday and sunny and high 70’s.  On a week day the crowd would be 2/3s less.

We are booking Dominick’s show on our last night here.  He went to school at U of A in Tucson-me too.  He worked in special education-me too.  Very charismatic.  We had lots of things in common.  The thing I love most about travel is meeting strangers and feeling good exchanging stories.

San Diego Inspires Us to get Out and be Active

The bikes and the trails are becoming a real part of our daily life here at Mission Bay.  I often take Georgie for a walk, first, so she can run in the grass.  Then we three hop on bikes and Georgie barks at all the dogs in town.  But Russ and I are starting to ride up hills.  Every day we get stronger.  It makes us feel good, but sometimes we drag into the RV and have to watch a playback TV show before we can get out again.

Today we also stopped in a nearby RV park which has pools and exercise equipment.  It will be great for next January in 2015!

I loved Balboa Park and look forward to going back to some of the gorgeous museums.  Also music was happening all over the place and an outdoor organ concert was spectacular.

Am glad we followed up and came down to San Diego.  It is delightful.

Happy New Year and No More Videos for Awhile

HEY EVERYONE, HAPPY NEW YEAR

My sweetie pie who is so good to me and my family.

My sweetie pie who is so good to me and my family.

Well I really wanted to add short video and I do have some precious ones from Christmas in Idaho.  But I simply could not make them work. So for you who tried to see my last two posts, you could not.

I don’t know about you, but last  night a good movie was all we could take in.  And we drove into Walnut Creek for “Walter Mitty” which was absolutely delightful.  Many layers and some of the scenery in Iceland and Greenland was fantastic.

Russ was asleep by 11 and I made it to midnight with Anderson Cooper and Kathy Griffen.  Today my sister had us out for the Rose Bowl and she served venison stew and pheasant.  Now when it comes to wild meat I allow for it.  To get two incredible versions was sublime.  So much for my vegetarian  diet.  And you should have seen me in Idaho.  I was surrounded by meat eaters and by lots of good food.  So how many pounds did you all gain????

I am thinking thankful thoughts today.  I have so much and so many to be thankful for.  All my family make me so proud.   I see many of you on Facebook with your beautiful children and grandchildren.  I know you are loving it and proud too.

Russ and I are going ahead with our plans to spend January in San Diego at Mission Bay.  We still love being out there in the RV.  We almost have the new condo here in Walnut Creek, put together.  Boy is it eclectic!!  But it is a great place to live and it will be fun to have a place to come back to. We are thankful we can live in our home area and yet travel too.

I guess you can think of this as my Christmas New Year Letter sending you love light and blessings.

Victor the Cat and his Neighborhood in Concord, CA

I did Halloween at Nancy’s House but I don’t think I have told you about Victor.  He is cat with so much love he must share it with an entire neighborhood.  The other day a young woman who works in San Francisco was moving into her first house in Nancy’s neighborhood.  I met her and her mother and as usual got into a lovely conversation.  I suggested she meet Nancy and Victor across the street.  “Victor?,”  That cat is in my house on the sofa we just moved in.  I thought maybe he came with the house and I was counting my good luck.”   Well I explained that he comes with the neighborhood, everyone thinks he spends most of his time with them.  Of course there are about 14 thems. Nancy figures his nine lives may be out there right now.

In the mornings Victor likes to show up at Nancy’s bedside after a nite of roaming.  He wants his food and he tells her loudly. She tells him how much trouble he is going to get into if he does not wait until 8.  She sleeps on a different schedule and they work it out.  But Victor loves to test her on it.  If you heard the conversations between them you would agree they have shared many lives together.

The funny part is everyone is just sure they must let Nancy know if Victor is out late at night.  So 2 AM calls and taps at her door to report that Victor is limping or has not been seen for several days occur all the time.  Regular walkers in the neighborhood carry treats for him.

Victor has taught our little Georgie Girl how to behave around him.  She has figured out he is Senior and very cool.  So she treats him with great respect.

Oh yes, when neighborhood children have birthday parties, Victor always attends.  He spends the full party entertaining and sharing love with their friends and families.
